Abstract

Anemia in pregnancy is a problem that needs special treatment because of its high prevalence. The effects that may arise in pregnant women with anemia are abortion, premature birth, LBW, prolonged first stage of labor, and postpartum hemorrhage. Pregnancy anemia can be prevented with a nutrient-rich diet, especially foods rich in iron and folic acid. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase knowledge about the nutritional needs of pregnant women in preventing anemia during pregnancy.  This activity has been carried out for 3 days at Anna Clinic Medan City. The activities carried out in the form of counseling to pregnant women about the nutritional needs of pregnant women in preventing anemia during pregnancy. This community service was carried out using lecture, discussion and pocket book application methods. The results of this community service were enthusiastically received by the participants as seen from the number of pregnant women who asked about information about, types of foods rich in iron and folic acid, the benefits of iron and folic acid for mothers and babies who are born, and handling if the baby has already been affected by anemia. It is recommended that counseling activities be carried out periodically with a wider frequency and range of information dissemination so that pregnant women, families and communities understand more about the nutritional needs of pregnant women in preventing anemia during pregnancy.
