One of the degenerative diseases with a chronic nature is DM which in its course will continue to increase both in prevalence and the state of the disease starting from the initial stage or at risk of DM to an advanced stage or complications occur. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of type 2 DM patients with the risk of complications being hospitalized in an internal medicine clinic at the Army Hospital. The population of this study were patients with a diagnosis of type II diabetes mellitus who visited the internal medicine clinic at the Army Hospital. Bivariate analysis to analyze the relationship between categorical variables was carried out with the Spearman Rank <0.05 statistical test. Based on the results of the statistical test calculation using Spearman rank, it was found that the factors influencing the incidence of complications were the knowledge factor where p value was 0.004 (<0.05), the sex factor was 0.0013 (<0.05) and the long-suffering factor where the p value was 0.012 ( <0.05). The results of this study can be used as a basis for nurses to expand their knowledge or knowledge about the correct diabetes treatment. Efforts that must be made include providing structured health education that focuses on improving self-management.
