Abstract

Applying a cold compress is thought to reduce the intensity of perineal wound pain. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of cold compresses on the intensity of perineal wound pain in post partum patients. This research is a quasi experimental design research. The study population was all 103 post partum mothers who experienced perineal wounds. The sample obtained was 50 people. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using the paired sample t-test at a confidence level of 95% (α=0.05). Based on the research results, it shows that the intensity of perineal wound pain in post partum patients before being given a cold compress (Pretest) obtained an average value (mean) of 6.72. The intensity of perineal wound pain in post partum patients after being given a cold compress (Posttest) obtained an average value (mean) of 4.10. There is a difference in the frequency of perineal wound pain in post partum patients before and after being given a cold compress at the Stella Maris Mother and Child Hospital in Medan. Obtained a significant p-value = 0.000 < 0.05. The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of cold compresses on the intensity of perineal wound pain. It is recommended that nurses at RSIA Stella Maris Medan routinely give cold compresses to post-partum mothers who experience perineal wounds so that the intensity of the pain felt by the patient can decrease and make the mother feel comfortable or.
