Abstract

Nutrition is one of the determinants of the quality of human resources (HR). Good nutritional conditions can be achieved when the body gets enough nutrients consumed so as to allow physical growth, brain development, and work ability to achieve optimal health levels. This study aims to describe the knowledge of mothers about malnutrition in toddlers based on the definition, characteristics, causes and treatment of malnutrition. The research method uses a descriptive study design. The population in this study were all mothers who had toddlers aged 2-5 years in Pir Village CIII ADB Besitang, Besitang District as many as 43 people. Sampling with total sampling technique with a sample of 43 respondents. The instrument used is a questionnaire. The results showed that the knowledge about the definition of malnutrition in the majority was sufficient as many as 20 people (46.5%), the characteristics of the majority of poor nutrition were sufficient as many as 23 people (53.5%), knowledge of the causes of malnutrition the majority was sufficient as many as 28 people (65.1 %), and the handling of malnutrition was sufficient for the majority as many as 34 people (79.1%). The conclusion is that the mother's knowledge about malnutrition in children under five in Dusun C III, PIR ADB Besitang Village, Besitang District, Langkat Regency, was mostly good as many as 26 people (60.5%) and the minority had sufficient knowledge as many as 17 people (39.5%).
